Earlier this year, Dagny Tang, Palos Verdes Estates resident and Montemalaga Elementary fourth-grader, was informed that she had won the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Habors’ Can the Trash Clean Beach Poster Contest.Tang submitted a piece of artwork for the contest last spring and shortly after found out that she had won the contest, which aims to motivate citizens to keep beaches clean and free of trash during the busy summer months.
art200Now, Tang’s artwork has been installed as a mural on the utility box at the corner of Ford Street and Aviation Boulevard in Redondo Beach. The artwork on display is named “Springtime in Redondo Beach.”
The piece was first submitted to the Redondo Beach Public Arts Commission in February 2020. Tang was in first grade at the time. After a long process that was delayed by COVID, her piece is now visible to the public on a busy intersection.
Tim Tang, Dagny’s father, has plenty to be proud of when it comes to his up-and-coming artist. He said, “I’m really proud that Dagny has discovered her love of, and talent in, art & crafts and is self-motivated in making the most of it.”
Dagny is self-taught and truly has a passion for making art. Clearly, she has a great talent for it, too.
